The Oriole
The Oriole is Quincy High School's award winning newspaper having received the Spartan Award from the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association (MIPA) during the past three years (06,07,08) for its excellence in journalism.
The Oriole is student produced by a staff which meets daily in a class called Publications. Members of the Oriole Staff make a full year commitment to publishing the school newspaper on a regular basis. The students are responsible for all phases of the publication process including brainstorming for story ideas, covering “beats,” reporting, meeting deadlines, selling advertising, writing and editing a variety of stories, and using the computer to design and lay out pages. The course provides a foundation of good ethical journalism and helps the students develop their writing, communication, and organizational skills. For more information on the school newspaper, contact Sue Spalding.
Applications are available through the instructor, counselor, & website. Approval is required from the instructor before registering for this course.
